After narrowly defeating close rivals Brighton, Reading Knights enter 2017 with the league title theirs to win.
After a close 12-11 victory over the visiting Brighton in their last game of 2016, Reading Knights are now only three points off the top of the league table with a game in hand. The league title, which they painstakingly missed out on last season on points difference, is almost within their grasp with only three games left to play this season.
That may be easier said than done, however. The Knights’ next game is the most important of the season so far, against Imperial 1’s, who so far have five wins out of five in the division, and sit in first place in the table.
The game will be their toughest fixture yet, but victory will see Reading leapfrog Imperial in the league and clinch top spot with two games to go. The league title will not be a forgone conclusion should the Knights win their next game, but whoever emerges from the tie victorious, will be hot favourites for the title.
In other competitions, the Knights have started their South Eastern conference cup campaign with a win, and now face Surrey 2’s in the quarter-finals (a team they beat 15-2 earlier this season). Should Reading progress through the competition, they could potentially face Brighton in the final, in what would be an exciting rematch.
