Reading University Women’s Football Team, welcomes all abilities, and is a very hardworking and dedicated team. By getting involved with RUWFC, it creates an opportunity to maintain a great level of fitness and play a team sport but most importantly continue to have fun and be a part of a diverse and inclusive club at the university. The team has a 1st and 2nd team play weekly games on Wednesdays, competing against other universities.

The team’s opinion is that Women’s football brings people together and makes all the Women who play the sport feel empowered and proud of their achievements. It also helps improve mental health as it can provide an escape from the stress of university life as well as social opportunities. Women’s Football is becoming more widely recognized but the team believes there is room for improvement regarding Women’s football on a national level. This includes actions like closing the gender pay gap and receiving more media coverage when there are big competitions. They believe that if women see themselves represented more in sports media, then more women will have the confidence to try a new sport.
In addition to raising the profile of women’s sports, the Reading university Women’s Football team raises money for charity and awareness for important causes. They did a mixed-gender charity football match tosupport the #girlsnightin campaign. They raised a massive six hundred pounds to help further security and equipment for our Student Union. This is an amazing achievement for such a compelling cause.
