To add to the excitement of the Royal Wedding and FA CUP Final this weekend, RUSU have just announced the latest acts to be added to the 2018 Summer Ball line-up.
Joining Grime and Rap star Hardy Caprio, who was the first act to be unveiled on Thursday, are big names Becky Hill, Fuse ODG and Jax Jones.
Singer-song writer Becky Hill who rose to fame following her appearance on the 2012 series of The Voice UK as the mentoree of Jessie J, is best known for featuring in Rudimental’s ‘Powerless’ and Wilkinson’s ‘Afterglow’. Since releasing her first single in 2014, Hill has continued to write and perform her own songs as well as co-writing with recording artists from across the globe and signing a record deal with English singer songwriter MNEK in August last year. We can expect to hear a range of songs from Hill, whilst it’s also possible that this year’s audience may get a taste of her originals.
Fuse ODG English/Ghanaian recording artist will also take to the stage with his popular hits ‘Antenna’, ‘Dangerous Love’ and ‘Million Pound Girl’ which are amongst the songs predicted to appear in his set. Since his first break into the music industry in 2013, Fuse ODG has worked with artists including Sean Paul and Tinchy Stryder. His 2017 single ‘Boa Me’ also featured Ed Sheeran.
Most famous for his hit ‘House Work’, English DJ and record producer Jax Jones is yet another announcement which has certainly been worth the wait. Although surrounded by music genres ranging from hip hop to gospel during his childhood, Jones has developed his own specialism in House music. This was sparked by his time working with Duke Dumont which led to Jones’ role in UK top single ‘I Got U’.
The first act which was revealed on Thursday last week, Hardy Caprio, will also represent the Grime scene. Caprio is based in Croydon and has produced two EPs in his career: Hardy Season and The Hollywood, as well as his single ‘Unsigned’ which has since gained 13 million views on YouTube. Whilst he is an act that students hadn’t particularly expected to see on the Summer Ball line-up, he is due to bring a fresh, contemporary vibe to the stage followed by his appearance at Reading University in August.
