Schools in Whitley and Tilehurst have placed first and second in a new and detailed guide put together by Trinity Mirror’s Data Unit.
The top two schools in The Primary Real Schools Guide 2017 are Reading Palmer Primary Academy in Northumberland Avenue, and Whitley and St Paul’s Catholic Primary School in City Road, Tilehurst.
The school guide takes 36 different datasets into account, including not just KS2 results, but factors like pupil-teacher ratios, progress, and absence rates.
Parents can now browse the full data, compare different schools, and find links to contact details and recent Ofsted reports.
The guide, which is currently in its fourth year, has been praised by education experts.
The rank shown below in the table is the school’s position nationally, as rated by the Data Unit.
|School name||Overall score||National rank|
|The Palmer Primary Academy||77.91||189|
|Churchend Primary Academy||72.14||566|
|Micklands Primary School||71.74||614|
|Oxford Road Community School||68.37||1005|
|Alfred Sutton Primary School||66.58||1248|
Dr Elaine McCreery, Head of Primary Initial Teacher Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, said the guide could help parents in making decisions about where to apply for, or be useful for those with children already enrolled to get involved and support the school.
