Hallowe’en Makeup Tutorial: Cheshire Cat

Who doesn’t love Alice in Wonderland? Alice in Wonderland is a timeless classic, and is still relevant in pop culture today, as a new film came out earlier this year (and it’s good – watch it and be inspired to dress up as the Cheshire cat).

This look is pretty easy; match the colours to your outfit to complete the whole look. I went with pinks/purples, because that way I could tie my hair in, too – if you’re going to do this, make sure your hair is a rich and crazy colour. Use coloured hairspray if need be (but remember that thick and/or long hair will need two cans). Alternatively, buy a cheap wig from Amazon.
You will need:
– your normal foundation
– white and black facepaint (or highly pigmented eyeshadow)
– a black eyeliner pen
– pink eyeshadow
– deep purple liner pencil or brow pencil (or a lip liner at a pinch – it works fine; it’s just tricky to get off)
– deep purple gel liner or brow pomade (or lipstick/liquid lipstick – I used a ‘Kylie’ Lip Kit)
– white eyeliner pencil
– black mascara
– glitter powder (close to, but slightly paler than, your skin tone ideally)
Instructions:

STEP 1: apply your usual base.

STEP 2: using white face paint, paint a big mouth shape over the lower half of your face and mouth. Line the highest points up with the base of your ears. Allow to dry fully (use a hairdryer to speed it up).

STEP 3: outline this shape using black eyeliner pen. Neaten the edges and make sure the outline is a nice shape. If need be, fill in any extra gaps with more white face paint.

STEP 4: draw the outlines of jagged, pointy teeth using the liner pen.

STEP 5: fill in the mouth shape using black face paint/eye shadow, making sure to leave the teeth white! Blend some pink eyeshadow along the very bottom of this shape.
STEP 6: heavily draw the outline of your brows in the purple liner. Draw a curl on each side at the end of your eyebrow — one extending outwards and one extending downwards. Fill in your eyebrows with whatever purple product you’re using for that.

STEP 7: apply pink eye shadow over the eyelid, eye area, and extend along and around the curl of each eyebrow.
STEP 8: apply a small patch of pink eye shadow to the tip of your nose and outline with black liner pen.
STEP 9: draw on tiny whiskers using the same liner you used for your eyebrows.

STEP 10: heavily line your eyes all around with black liner, going into a pronounced cat-eye flick. Curl your eyelashes and liberally apply mascara, and apply white eyeliner to the waterline.

STEP 11: apply glitter lightly everywhere that’s still skin coloured, focusing mostly on the cheek and under-eye area.

STEP 12: accessorise with wild hair, colour-matched clothes, and cat accessories! Bonus points for a pointy, claw-like manicure!
