Athletics season off the mark

The first round of the LCL cross country league was as always held at Parliament Hill, in London. Reading University Athletics Club had two strong teams which were a mixture of freshers and those who had been around the parks of London many times. The women ran one lap of a 2.5mile course, whereas the men had to endure two in a 5mile race.

Badminton and Lacrosse star on even day for Reading Knights

100% win records for Reading Knights’ Badminton and Lacrosse teams were some of the significant highlights from last Wednesday’s BUCs action. It was an even day of results for the Knights as they picked up 13 wins and 13 losses, coupled with two draws and eight matches unplayed.

Badminton Men’s 1s beat Imperial Meds 6-2 away, and the Women’s team won by the same scoreline at home to Holloway. Meanwhile the Men’s 2s beat Surrey away 5-3.» >

Football teams go unbeaten in latest BUCs action for Reading Knights

All five of Reading Knights’ football teams in action were unbeaten in their second week of BUCs fixtures. Wins for the Men’s 2s, Men’s 4s, and Women’s 1s were accompanied by battling draws for the Men’s 1s and 3s. With three of those matches taking place on Whiteknights Campus there was plenty to cheer about for the home fans.

The Women’s 1s fixture was away at the University of Arts in Chiswick and a 2-0 victory was their second win by the same scoreline in a row, this time topped off by captain Daisy Rennison’s 25 yard free-kick planted into the top right corner.» >

Mixed results for Reading as Women’s Football start well

The first week of BUCs action for most of Reading University’s sports team was a mixed affair. With only the Rugby Union teams in action last week, it was an opportunity for the ‘Reading Knights’ to get their seasons up and running, and some teams fared better than others.

There was a good start for the Women’s Football 1s as they dominated their game against UCL (RUMS) to run out 2-0 winners.» >

Starting from this autumn, the Spark* newspaper sports section will be featuring its most diverse collection of articles and reporting yet. All the main university-related sports stories will be covered, as will all the key results and highlights from Reading Uni’s teams in the BUCs competitions.

Continuing on from previous years will be coverage of Reading FC’s home games in the Championship, with Spark* sending reporters as press representatives to games at the Madejski stadium.» >
