UoR Rugby looking for strong end to season

Reading’s Rugby Union 1st team won a hugely important clash with Exeter University 2nds on Wednesday 5th March in their bid to stay in the Premier South B division.

The fixture was the first ‘Big One’ of 2014 for the Rugby team, and therefore Reading Knights Cheerleaders and representatives from London Irish RFC were there to support the team.

With Exeter sitting several places above Reading, a win would go a long way in helping to achieve safety for the Knights.» >

Reading defeated in 2014 Varsity

Reading Knights could not reverse last year’s result as they lost Varsity 2014 to Oxford Brookes.

The final score of 15-13 was however an improvement on last year’s 16-9 beating, and was settled in the most dramatic of fashions with a penalty shoot-out in the final match of the day.

With Brookes leading 14-13, a win for Reading’s Hockey 1s would’ve ensured a tie, but in a sudden death penalty shoot-out Brookes managed to secure their victory.» >

Campus Sports 11-a-side quarter-finalists decided

With major fixture disruption this term due to the adverse weather conditions, several surprising results have been witnessed in the Campus Sport 11-a-side competition. The eight quarter-finalists have now been decided however, based on their positions in the tables after all fixtures played up until 5th March.

Wessex Freshers have claimed top spot in Group A, after an inconsistent second half of the season which has seen them lose to both Mackinder and Benyon.» >

RUKA compete at BUCs XC in Scotland

This year BUCS XC was held in Stirling Scotland at the beginning of February, which meant a whole weekend of travelling and racing. Race day saw typical Scottish conditions with light rain persistent throughout the day. Despite the distance and conditions, the enthusiastic XC runners were deterred, and turned up in their thousands to represent their universities.

The Men’s A-race was first go and featured almost 300 athletes from across the country.

Pharmacy FC win Campus Sport 5-a-side tournament

After a long hard season, the Sports Park 5-a-Side League culminated in a pulsating and tense final contested by Badger and Pharmacy FC. Prior to Badger and Pharmacy renewing their rivalry, the Quarter and Semi-Finals were played out. The first match-ups saw League one winners Pharmacy take on Wealdstone Raiders and League two runners up NFAC face Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtles, the latter of those two fixtures being arguably the game of the round.» >

RUBC fly through BUCs indoors

Towards the end of last term on the 23rd November the BUCS rowing calendar kicked off with the BUCS indoor rowing championships.

Students from all across the country, a total of 1600 students, competed by rowing 2km on a rowing machine.

The University of Reading hosted one of the several venues for the event which saw several of the University’s athletes achieve success.

Sam Twine in the men’s heavyweight category came a close second overall in the country with a time of 5.59.8 to the winner’s time of 5.59.0.» >
