Reading prepares for the Careers and Placement Fair 2013

5 year high for graduate vacancies!

As employers prepare for the University of Reading’s Careers and Placement Fair 2013, the news that graduate vacancies at the major UK employers are at their highest since 2008 (High Fliers Research) sets a positive tone for this already popular event.

The Careers and Placement Fair 2013 is the must attend careers event for all years and all disciplines.

Taking place on 30th October, 11 am – 3 pm in the Palmer Building, the fair attracts a wide range of employers, all actively seeking to recruit Reading graduates to their placement and graduate schemes.

Fair sponsors PwC will be joined at the fair by SC Johnson, Vodafone, Virgin Media, NHS, Cancer Research UK and Teach First, to name just a few.

Will Cummins, recruiter for PwC is pleased to be working with the university:

“The University of Reading Careers and Placement Fair is always well attended by students and employers alike, which is why we have been delighted to support the fair for a number of years.

This is the perfect opportunity for us to meet with potential candidates from Reading; we are looking forward to meeting students from all subject areas who would like to talk to us about possible placement and graduate scheme opportunities”

PwC are offering something different at the fair, and this year students can enjoy refreshments from their coffee cart at the entrance to the Palmer Building – get there early to make sure you don’t miss out!

The majority of employers attending are interested in students studying any discipline and many have opportunities in areas you might not expect.

This is an ideal opportunity to meet potential employers, look for placement schemes and graduate opportunities or just to find some careers inspiration, giving you an advantage over the competition.

The outlook is bright for Reading’s graduates, but the journey starts here!

Also NEW to 2013 is the Reading Postgraduate Study Room for students wishing to continue their studies here at Reading before embarking on their graduate career.

Law Careers Fair: opens to all students on all courses

Whether you are currently studying Law or another subject, why not come along to the Law Careers Fair on Wednesday 6 November, 2.00 – 4.00pm in the Palmer Building to meet law firms and training providers, and find out more about the opportunities on offer in this sector.

Perhaps surprisingly, about 50% of lawyers and barristers didn’t study a law degree.

Many of the UK’s lawyers didn’t study law at university.  At top City firms, approximately half of any class of recruits might have spent their student days reading Shakespeare, studying social theory or working in the lab.

Law firms are interested in non-law graduates because they bring lots of useful knowledge and abilities to legal work.

A firm with multinational clients will value language graduates for example, or a science degree could be handy when working in intellectual property.  Pretty much any subject could come up when advising clients.

It is more about your skills, and the ones you’ll need on the job are ones you’ll begin to acquire on most degree courses.

Law firms want the best people, where ever they are from.

Why not book a place on Prepare for the Law Fair, 4 November, 1 – 1.50pm through your My Jobs Online account?

If you think law might be for you, then this is a must attend event.
