Upcoming Live Music in Reading!

Calling all music lovers! For anyone interested in decent live music in Reading, anyone deprived of the sound of those sweet, sweet guitar strings, or anyone just needing to take a break from revision, local promoters Heavy Pop have come to save you. Bringing all the sweetest indie gems to Reading over the next couple of months (and beyond), here’s what they have in store:

Reading-based four-piece The Amazons are coming to Reading University’s Student Union on May 27th. Following the success of their debut album, which charted at #8 on the UK Album Charts, the show will come just after the release of their second album Future Dust, which releases on May 24th. Certainly not one to miss.

At the end of the month, on May 30th, Amsterdam-based Pip Blom and band will be gracing the South Street Arts Centre with her stripped-back, riff-heavy grunge-pop and energetic live show. The show comes the day before the release of her debut album Boat, hotly anticipated by Rough Trade and BBC 6 Music, and promises to bring a good time to South Street.

On June 14th, ex-Supergrass front man Gaz Coombes is coming down to Sub89. With a set list containing his highly-praised third solo album World’s Strongest Man, as well as newly released single Salamander, the show promises to be a spectacle of experience, talent and prowess.

Lastly for this academic year, Heavy Pop are bringing Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever to Sub89 on July 23rd. Watched closely by big names such as Rough Trade and So Young, the band have a big future ahead of them. With a renowned live show, this is undoubtedly a must-see.

Even after the summer Heavy Pop continue to bring musical joy to Reading, so if revision’s keeping you indoors for the near future, here’s what you have to look forward to next year:

  • On Saturday 7th September Heavy Pop are debuting their brand new day festival Down At The Abbey, held at Reading Abbey Ruins and featuring the likes of BC Camplight, The Wave Pictures, Tom Williams, Saltwater Sun and Ever Hazel. A good excuse to come back to university early for first term next year.
  • The Night Café are playing at Sub89 on 1st October
  • Trudy and the Romance are playing at Facebar on 23rd October
  • She Drew The Gun are playing at Sub89 on 27th October
  • Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs are playing at Sub89 on 14th November
