When I look at you

By Riley Zander

When I look at you

soft nicotine lips

corrupted lungs

and untamed hair

eyes laced with stardust

your smile crept into the shape of a crescent

in the night, the universe softly caresses your face

my hands coiled around you

held your figure as they slipped

to the small of your back

i perched my head against you

when a million butterflies burst into life

and it’s like we lost touch of sight

like we disappeared

from this world, and

got lost on another plane

but i foolishly yearn to live some mortal day

wrapped in your cocoon’s embrace

hidden from the moon’s darkness

trapped in a child-like innocent daze
