The Amazons, a rock band from Reading, are back this month with their new album called Future Dust.
The album will be released on the 24th May on Fiction Records. The Amazons will be performing their new album’s songs at a homecoming gig in Reading University Students’ Union (RUSU) on the 27th May. This is exciting for fans at the university since it is not often that RUSU holds gigs with famous bands.
This is the track list for Future Dust:
- “Fuzzy Tree”
- “The Mire”
- “Doubt It”
- “All Over Town”
- “End Of Wonder”
- “Dark Visions”
- “25 (Reprise)”
- “Warning Sign”
I was grateful to have the chance to interview the lead singer and guitarist of the band, Matt Thomson, to discuss his thoughts on the new album and the band’s upcoming performance at RUSU.
Thomson was brimming with excitement as he said, “We’ve never played at a university before so I’m looking forward to it.”
Afterwards, I asked him whether he thinks that this is the band’s best album so far to which he replied, “Yes I would say so, we’ve grown as musicians since the first album and we have more to say lyrically.”
I was also intrigued to find out what the lead singer’s favourite song was from the new album. Thomson explained that his favourite is “25”. He said, “we bashed out this song in an hour or two and there was a real energy in the room in the making of this song.”
However, Thomson believes that the most popular songs of the new album will be “Mother” and “Doubt it”. He said that these two songs will have “something that people can relate to.”
The Amazons are performing at many festivals this summer including Reading Festival. There will be a UK tour at the end of 2019. The band have recently played in Austin, Texas. Thomson expressed that performing in other countries is exciting for the band.
